He graduated from Erzurum High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Süleyman Demirel University, Burdur Faculty of Education. He completed a master's degree (2001) and a Ph.D. (2005) in Turkish Language Education at the Graduate School of Social Sciences, Atatürk University. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011 and Full Professor in 2017. In 2013 and 2024, he conducted academic research at Kent State University in Ohio, USA.

After working as a teacher under the Ministry of National Education for 10 years, he served on the faculty of Dumlupınar University and Yıldız Technical University, holding department chair positions at both institutions. Additionally, he served as Director of Domaniç Vocational School, Director of the Graduate School of Social Sciences at Yıldız Technical University, and Dean of the Faculty of Education.

He founded and served as editor-in-chief for the Yıldız Journal of Social Sciences and the Journal of Turkish Education. He organized academic conferences, including the Turkish Education Congress (2018, 2020, 2022). His articles have been published in various national and international journals, and he wrote a daily column on education and culture for a national newspaper.

He has authored seven books in the field, including Reading Education, Children's Literature and Culture, The Voice of Fairy Tales: The Role of Fairy Tales in Education, Tales of Istanbul, Handbook of Written Expression (co-authored with S. Ungan), and Genres in Children's Literature (co-authored with S. Ungan). Furthermore, he has edited eight books, such as Great Educators, Searches for the Ideal Human and Nationhood in Education: Ideal Turk, Ideal Teacher, Ideal School, and Turks and Türkiye for Turkish Learners.
